Care For Your Leather Sleeper Sofas

So you have just bought a sylish leather sleeper sofa for your home? I'm sure that you are very happy to own such a versatile sofa. We know that leather sleeper sofas can be pretty expensive and so you want to extend the life of the sofa as much as you can.

To do so, special care is needed and here's how you can do it.

First of all, you must understand that there are 2 types of leather: Finished and unfinished. Finished leathers are basically additional protective layer added to the leather. This is to prevent daily wear and tear and should contribute to overall longevity of the material.

Sofas are usually finished leather, but I suggest that you ask the seller before you do anything.

With that in mind, let's look at the different ways to care for your leather sleeper sofas.

Clean with dry cloth, not wet cloth

One of the biggest mistakes people made is that they use a WET cloth to clean their leather sofas. This is a big mistake as water damage the leather surface, increasing the rate of leather cracking process. That is one reason why we should not allow a person who is perspiring to sit on the sofa as their sweat will get in contact with the leather.

Obviously, you do not use solvents or soap to clean the leather surface as they are a big no-no. If in the event that you do need to use water to clean the leather, use minimum amount, like a slightly damped cloth. Clean the stain and dry it fast so as to minimize the contact of the water with the leather.

Use Leather conditioner

One of the most effective way is to use leather conditioner. These conditioners will help lengthen the life of the leather. However, you do not use it everyday! Conditioning should be done only once every 1-2 months. During the conditioning, you should not use too much solution. Keep it mild.

Keep away from sunlight

Do not put your leather sofa near the window, or anything that is hot, like a fireplace or a heater. Remember that they are leather, and they are very sensitive to heat.

No 'favorite' spot

OK, what do I mean? Do you realized that some people love to sit at a certain spot of the leather sofa? After a year or so, you would see that this spot of the sofa will look more 'sink-in' and the leather feels harder too.

The reason is that the sitting is not 'well-distributed' due to the continual sitting on the same spot for an extended period of time. As a result, the leather get too much body heat and pressure. While you can still use a conditioner to prevent such things from happening, I would recommend that you amend the way it is being seated.
